How to win the Steel Ball Run

If you've read Jojo, then you've at least heard the words Steel Ball Run before. The Steel Ball Run is a horse racing competition featured in part 7, it spans from San Diego Beach California, to New York City. The race is separated into 9 parts called stages. Each stage can last 30 or several weeks.
Using my knowledge on horse racing and stands here's how to win it.

Step 1: you need a balanced horse.

The Steel Ball Run is not only a test of speed, but a test of endurance and strength between horse and rider. The horse must be fast, be bombproof, and have high stamina.
The Horses chosen by contestants vary by their riding style, but some are as followed.
Gyro Zeppeli- Valkyrie- Australian stock horse/Murgese
Johnny Joestar- Slow Dancer- Appaloosa
Diego Brando- Silver Bullet- Arab Thoroughbred
Hot Pants- Gets Up- Mustang
Poco Loco- Hey! Ya!- Quarter horse

Each horse complements his/her riders riding style.

Overall. Arabians would be the fastest choice, but they are easily spooked, and not used to rough terrain. An Appaloosa is a standard breed and while it would be okay situationally in the race it wouldn't be my first option.
In the horse department id say Gyro, Diego, and Hot Pants take the cake for best horses.

Stock horses have amazing endurance through all breeds, each one having an extra strength point, with Australian stock horses being the most well rounded. Arab Thoroughbreds are standard for racing, they are fast like Arabians, but more sure footed and less easily spooked. Mustangs are wild horses, they are used to the wild terrain and have well rounded stamina and endurance, most of this varies though since they are, for the most part, wild.
For the Steel Ball Run specifically I would pick the Australian Stock Horse. It has the best endurance out of all of them, has goof speed, and is naturally born with a good temperament- it would be the best horse for the race.

Step 2: Be well prepared.

The Steel Ball Run is a mostly un-monitored race when it comes to safety, during stage 1 there where 3 deaths. and by the end of the race there where 88.
Not only are other competitors out for you, but the climates are harsh, ranging from the deserts of Arizona to the snowy mountains of somewhere.
You need to pack the essentials. Food, water, extra clothes, medical supplies, weapons, cash, girl teddy, more food, more water, camping equipment.
Remember while racing the fastest way is not always the best way, and the longest way isn't always the safest.

Step 3: have a kick ass stand.

The last thing you need for your journey is a stand. Not just any stand- a defense stand. Now all of the following is assuming you aren't going for corpse parts, but if you are, then good luck. When I think of defense stands I think of something like 20th Century Boy. The stand itself is for defense purposes only. I imagine in the best case scenario you could get a stand like 20th Century Boy, but more mobile.

I hope my how to helped, and I wish you good luck on the Steel Ball Run!
